06/01/10: The 2010 Picton Grading will be held on the weekend of the 30th & 31st January. Registered 2009-10 NSWKA members and AKR members are eligible to participate in this grading. the deadline to get forms in will be Thursday the 21st. Please note that during that week that there is no Wednesday training. So please don't plan handing it in that day (20th January). Also note that uniforms are required to participate in grading.

08/10/07: The 2007 NSW Kendo Championships is coming up soon, to be held on the 1st of December so keep this day free. This is an individual competition only. For further details see here: http://www.nswkendo.org/events/2007NSWChampInfo.htm

08/10/07: There will be the ACT Open competition held on the 27th and 28th of October. It is a great opportunity to play different people and gain experience in kendo, as well as great practice for the upcoming NSW Kendo Championships. For details on the event, see http://www.anukendo.org/events.htm.

Several people from our club are planning to go and we'll try and organise transport and accommodation in the next week or so.

08/10/07: Chiba Sensei (8th dan) from Japan will be visiting Sydney at the end of the month and a seminar will be held for all NSWKA members. The seminar will run between 5.30pm - 8.30pm Tuesday, October 30th @ USYD (Lidcombe) CSG Sports Centre (see address below)

06/07/07: The 32nd Australian Kendo Championships were held last month in Melbourne and NSW had a highly successful competition the kyu team (including Elaine, Ephragm and Phil) taking 2nd place, and the dan team (including Kirby and Michael) taking 1st place and Kirby taking second place in the individuals.

06/07/07: The Founders Cup competition is coming up soon, and the will be several events held, including a team competition, a grading and a seminar.

For details on the grading see here. If you wish to grade print the form on the above page, have Sano-sensei sign it and hand it to Cecil with the fees.

More details for the competition and seminar will be available later.

28/11/06: Hi everyone!

Christmas time is fast approaching (only four weeks left!!!) and that means not just lots of parties and loads of food and -OH but also that LifeStyle Centre (gym) will be closed for the season holidays.

Gym is closing on Friday 22nd of December, 6pm.
Gym will reopen on Tuesday 2nd of January, normal time.

This means UNSW Kendo Club will have LAST training for year 2006 on Thursday 21st of December.

We will come back for the FIRST training in 2007 on Wednesday 3rd of January.

I will remind you all about these dates once more, closer to said time.


Also, I would like to remind everyone how wonderful and eventful year 2006 has been:

February:
Picton seminar and grading, where 15 UNSW members got their new grades including 2 Dan grades (1st Dan for Yoshiki and 2nd Dan for Aaron)

April:
31st Australian Kendo Championship, in Perth, where NSW Dan team (including Sano Sensei and Kirby) won 1st place; Kirby kept, for 4th consecutive year, his 1st place in Open Dan Individuals and Elaine got Fighting Spirit Award. And excellent seminars during this period!

May:
Korean Kumdo Championship hosted by Han Rim Won Kumdo club of Macquarie University, where Ken Chen won 2nd place in Dan's; Nurlin came 2nd and Anna Cho 3rd in Women's; Kyu team came 2nd and Elaine got an Encouragement Award.

June:
Open Invitation Tournament hosted by Dae Han Moodo Kwan club of Burwood, where Yoshiki won 2nd place in Dan's; Women's team came 2nd and in Women's division Nurlin and Elaine shared 3rd place.

August:
Founders Cup with seminar,grading and competition, hosted by UNSW (us) of UNSW, where for the grading part, out of UNSWKC 25 successful kendokas three got their Dan grades (2nd Dan for Jackson, 1st Dan for Owen and for Dino). Dan team came 2nd; Kyu Kata team came 1st; Ken Chen got Geurillot Sensei Spirit of Kendo Award and Kirby got Jong Rim Rhee (Korea Kumdo Association) Fighting Spirit Award.

September:
Farewell to president Dino in his job in Spain.
Australian University Games in Adelaide, where Duy and Ephragm successfully graded.
Welcomed three Russians for training, who just send us an email of their success in their National Competition.
Welcomed Fukuda Sensei back to Sydney and his valuable teaching. He will be back in December.

November:
SKC hosted a visit from Sumi Sensei, a man with truly powerful presence about him, and Terry Holt Sensei from UK, during their visit to Mumeishi Three's Kendo clubs Championship in Victoria.
2006 NSW Kendo Open Championship, where Nurlin came 3rd in Women's division and Sussan got Fighting Spirit Award.

13th World Kendo Championship and grading, in Taiwan, where Sano Sensei and Kirby will be a part of Australian representation.

27/06/06: Grading is coming up in August. If you are planning on getting graded, you need to be a member of the NSW Kendo Association. This is seperate from UNSW Kendo Club, and other benefits include:

* Eligible to participate in competitions organised by AKR/NSWKA's affiliated clubs.
* Eligible to participate in state training sessions (incl. state squad training and seminars)

Membership registrations and renewels for UNSW are due by the end of this month (June). You have the option of paying the fee, filling in the form and submitting to any club executive - Gideon (Guv), Sussan, Cecilija, or Dino. Another option is in the training fee deal introduced last year.

Training Fee Deal: $300 for a year's worth of training at UNSW. This will cover you for the 06-07 financial year AND also includes the NSWKA membership fees for the same year. This payment is also due by the end of the month, so if you are keen to make use of this deal, I suggest you sort it out ASAP.

22/02/06: Congratulations to the UNSW members that were selected to represent New South Wales in the Hong Kong Asian Regional Tournament. Their efforts have resulted in a 3rd and 4th placing for the 2nd Dan and under team events for not just New South Wales but also Australia.
